Yacht Bookings

The REYC yachts are available for charter to serving Royal Engineers, Club members and members of affiliated Service Yacht Clubs. The yachts are berthed at Hornet Services Sailing Club, Haslar Road, GOSPORT (PO12 2AQ). The availability of our yachts can be checked and all booking information managed via the REYC charters site linked:

REYC Yacht Booking App - Planyo.

From Jan 2022, the REYC only has one yacht available for charter, Trojan is a J109 racer/cruiser which was built in 2007; she is a comfortable yacht and is well set up for cruising as well as racing. It is hoped that a replacement for Right Royal will be purchased early in the 2022 sailing season.

Membership categories and charters fees are explained in the table below. REYC membership is broken into Full, Associate and Honorary memberships. 'Reciprocal' Membership refers to members of affiliated Service Yacht Clubs. For additional advice/information, the Charter Secretary, Capt Mike Wynne-Roberts, controls all charters and can be contacted by email at charters@sappersailing.org, or the RC(O), Maj Rob Duke offshore@sappersailing.org.

Crew Limitations. Listed below are the minimum and maximum numbers and crew qualifications required for all four yachts. Maximum numbers are dictated by both the safety equipment provided and the MCA certification. Skippers are reminded that exceeding these limitations will invalidate the insurance cover and skippers may be liable for all costs in the event of an accident.

Eligibility. To qualify for the lower charter rate, the charterer must be a Full or Associate Member of the REYC. Members should quote their membership number when requesting a charter. Reciprocal Members must be able to prove their membership of an affiliated Service Yacht Club to the Charter Secretary before their charter is accepted. The use of yachts for Adventurous Training must be processed through the Rear Commodore (Offshore) or Racing Secretary.

Provisional bookings for July/August. To prevent those members with unconfirmed schedules (usually Serving) from missing out on bookings over the sometimes-congested summer period, provisional bids may be made from the Jan of a year, but will only be confirmed at the end of May.

Racing. Club yachts may only be raced by skippers who are authorised by the RC(O) or the Deputy RC(O). Yachts may be manned in accordance with the relevant Racing Instructions, but in no circumstances shall the maximum crew-load as per the yacht's Coding Certificate (SCV2) be exceeded.

NB. All skippers wishing to race Trojan or crew with the asymmetric spinnakers must arrange for specific briefing/training prior to the charter rate.

Individual Day Racing fee. For day-racing, the fee per person will be capped at a maximum of £20 per person per day.

Additional Charges. Post charter, bills may be raised against skippers for cleaning, fuel, gas, loss or damage to the inventory or craft in accordance with the Club Regulations. Skippers should check before the charter that their personal liability insurance is adequate.

Making a booking. Firstly, check the current charter schedule HERE. If you cannot access the site, please contact the Charter Secretary. Once confirmed, an invoice will be raised and sent to the skipper in advance of the charter (usually six weeks if sufficient notice is given). Charter fees must be paid in full at least 14 days before the charter commences. Cheques should be sent to the REYC Offshore Treasurer and be made payable to 'REYC Offshore'. Alternatively, bank transfers can be made; bank details will be on the booking form sent out by the Charter Secretary. Cancellation without penalty must be made at least 7 days before the first day of the charter. Sailing clothing (oilskins and boots) are available free of charge to charterers.

Adventurous Training. Those planning military Adventurous Training are reminded that the Club limitations do not supersede or negate the requirements mandated by AGAI Chapter 11.
